Adding Upload Instructions for Clients
Clear instructions help clients upload the right files.
Why Instructions Matter
Without instructions, clients might:
- Upload wrong file formats
- Miss important documents
- Not know what you need
- Give up and skip uploads
Writing Good Instructions
Include:
- What files you need — Be specific
- Preferred formats — PDF, PNG, etc.
- File naming — How to name files
- Important notes — Size limits, deadlines
Example Instructions
For Brand Projects
"Please upload: (1) Your current logo files (AI, EPS, or PNG), (2) Brand guidelines if available, (3) 3-5 examples of designs you like. Accepted formats: PDF, PNG, JPG."
For Legal/Contracts
"Upload signed contract and any supporting documents. PDF format preferred. Please name files clearly (e.g., 'Signed_Contract_YourName.pdf')."
For Creative Projects
"Share reference images, mood boards, or examples that inspire you. Any format works - we'll review everything before our kickoff call."
Where Instructions Appear
Instructions show:
- On your intake form, above the upload button
- Giving clients context before they click
Instruction Length
Keep it concise:
- 1-3 sentences is ideal
- Use bullet points for multiple items
- Maximum ~500 characters
Tip: Review your instructions from a client's perspective. Would you know exactly what to do?
